Noreast’r wouldn’t be complete without, Carrick’s Guitar Giveaway for kids. In“2002” Craig Carrick joined forces with Noreastr’s founder Buffy Galer and started an annual tradition to fulfill a dream for many lucky kids, matching up aspiring young musicians’ with a new guitar. Most of you know that Craig heroically battled a fierce cancer and thankfully is now officially in remission. You can read about it at carrickhouseconcerts.com.
The fundraiser for Carrick’s Guitars for Kids will be held on MARCH 31, 2012 at Callahan’s Pub in Auburn Hills, Michigan. Every year, this fundraiser features a line-up of amazing artists who all freely give their time.
More information will be coming soon about the festival and fundraiser so check back here often.
The Fundraiser to benefit Craig on October 2, 2011 was an enormous success! Many thanks go to many, many people who put heart and soul and a lot of hard work into making it happen – the musicians, the planning team, the volunteers and most of all – Kim Ahlborn who spearheaded the whole event. It would NOT have been half the success it was without her.
We’re thrilled to report that Craig’s cancer remains in remission. He continues on a weekly regimen of chemo-therapy, but is back to work and he’s even beginning to host concerts again.
Craig’s Story
In October of 2010, our friend Craig Carrick was diagnosed with an advanced stage Multiple Myeloma, a cancer of the blood. Craig has been working hard to fight back with amazing courage and his remarkable sense of humor. His treatment began with regular chemo therapy and in early June, he underwent a stem cell transplant at U of M Hospital. He has spent the rest of the summer recovering at home and at their family cabin up north. His immune system is bouncing back and he is regaining his strength. On August 23, Craig went for his follow up visit at U of M Hospital, and was told that his is in Remission! It’s been nearly a year since his diagnosis and between his medical treatments and lost wages, the financial burden on Craig and his family has been immense.
Craig has given so much to the music community in Michigan -promoting live music and local and national “roots” musicians through the much loved Carrick House Concerts and the Nor-East’r Music & Arts Festival. He is well known and appreciated for his tireless efforts organizing the annual ‘Carrick’s Guitars for Kids’ event. Craig raises money each year to buy dozens of guitars that are given to budding young musicians, doing his part to influence a new crop of Michigan artists.
The attached poster was designed for use at a number of events planned in the coming months to raise money to help Craig and his family through this difficult time and to just plain return the Karma! The “Friends of Craig Carrick” and our friends at the Nor-East’r Music & Arts Festival thank you for your support and contribution.
